How To Relieve Shoulder Pain In 7 Steps (2023)

How to Relieve Shoulder Pain in 7 Steps (2021)

Is it a sharp pain or a dull ache?

Does it hurt even when you don’t move?

I know – having shoulder pain is difficult and frustrating.

But luckily for you – I have 7 steps to relieve shoulder pain

Here are the steps you can use at home.

Note: These steps are based on my thorough research and personal experience with shoulder pain.

Step #1 – DMSO Lotion

I know what you want – to get rid of that pain fast!

Then what you're looking for is a DMSO lotion.

It is definitely not your regular pain-relieving product, as it provides a quicker and stronger pain relief.

A DMSO-based lotion gives you the following key benefits:

  • Its pain relief lasts longer.
  • Relieves your pain faster (within a few minutes or even a few seconds).
  • Penetrates your skin deeper [1].

DMSO is on top of our list, as it is a delivery system that brings its active ingredients right at the spot of your pain.

With that, its absorption is quickly increased.

Another compelling reason why I put this product on this list is that it is FDA approved.

While it's obviously effective against pain, there are only a few DMSO products on the market.

That is why – if you find one, it's probably going to be very expensive.

For this reason, what I recommend you isa product called Arctic Blast.

Arctic Blast gives you the following benefits:

  • It's exceptionally effective.
  • Greatly reduces both joint and muscle pain in your shoulders.
  • Increases your flexibility.
  • It's cheaper than other similar products.

That is why it's the best if you want a quick relief from that lingering shoulder pain.

Arctic Blast is my top choice, as it's not only valuable for its price.

But you will also be surprised as to how good and effective it is!

SUMMARY

DMSO-based lotions are superior to regular creams in relieving shoulder pain.

Arctic Blast stands out as it is one of the few high-quality DMSO products.

Plus, it's incredibly cheap for its quality.

Step #2 – Essential Oil Massage

What you need to know about shoulder pain is that it also brings in tension.

And one of the most effective ways to relieve pain and tension is by massage.

Applying some essential oils with a massage can be very beneficial [2].

Now, some of the best essential oil against pain are:

  • Eucalyptus Oil
  • Lavender Oil [3]
  • Rosemary Oil
  • Peppermint Oil

An essential oils massage will definitely soothe out shoulder muscles, by calming the inflammation and swelling.

It also improves your blood circulation in the painful area.

Plus, it gives you that relaxing feeling of flow.

Lastly, it dramatically decreases your shoulder pain.

However, massaging withe essential oils only gives you temporary relief.

So it's essential to use it together with the other steps from this list.

SUMMARY

Massaging your shoulders with essential oils can alleviate your pain.

It helps relieve tension, inflammation and swelling.

However, it can only decrease your pain temporarily.

Step #3 – Anti-Inflammatory Supplement

There’s a reason why supplements are common nowadays – because they work!

They can greatly reduce swelling, tension and inflammation [4].

This could quickly result in a significant reduction in your pain.

While there are classic drugs like NSAIDs, anti-inflammatory supplements can be a better option [5].

That's because they have lower chances side reactions (especially digestive problems).

Given this fact, anti-inflammatory supplements are the safest choice [6].

And the best supplements against inflammation are those containing turmeric.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which is known for its natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

It's backed up by scientific studies and it's clinically proven to suppress inflammation.

However, it is important to know that not all turmeric supplements work the same.

That's because our body could only absorb minimal levels of turmeric (in most cases).

This is why I want to tell you about Turmeric Curcumin Plus.

Why Turmeric Curcumin Plus?

Well, it is simply one of the best turmeric supplements you can buy now!

It s specifically designed for inflammation:

  • Chronic pain
  • Swollen joints
  • Auto-Immune arthritis (RA, PsA)

Remember the absorption problem of  turmeric?

Well, this supplement contains Bioperine, which is an absorption booster.

This increases its absorption up to 2000%.

So Turmeric Curcumin Plus is one of the best:

  • Its ingredients are clinically backed up by studies (which is essential).
  • Has an excellent formula with high dosages.
  • It's extremely praised by previous customers.
  • Only requires 2 pills daily.
  • Has the lowest price among its competitors.

This product doesn't only work for shoulder pain, but it also has many other key benefits.

It helps your heart and cognitive health and it also supports a heavy weight loss.

So in terms of pain, I can't find a reason why you shouldn't try it out!

SUMMARY

Anti-inflammatory supplements are not only effective against inflammation – but they are also safe.

And the best ones seem to be turmeric products.

Out of all supplements, Turmeric Curcumin Plus has the best quality/price ratio.

Step #4 – Heat – Cold Therapy

Other than pain, stiffness and inflammation are also common in shoulder pain.

And that's where heat and cold come into play.

You can combine and alternate them for better results.

Heat is one of the most practical remedies for stiffness.

It also reduces muscle spasms in your shoulder.

When using heat against your pain, make sure to use a heating pad device to avoid direct contact.

Now, heat therapy gives you the following benefits:

  • Increases your flexibility.
  • Enhances blood supply to your painful area – in this case, your shoulders.
  • It's great for muscle relaxation.

On the other hand, cold could greatly reduce your shoulder pain.

It's excellent in actual pain and inflammation.

It can also temporarily reduce nerve activity (which gives you that pain relief).

When using cold therapy, use a towel or sealed bag (which you can apply to your shoulder).

Cold therapy has the following benefits for you:

  • Decreases the swelling.
  • Improves the numb and sore areas.
  • Greatly reduces inflammation.
SUMMARY

Heat and cold therapies are some of the most convenient remedies for shoulder pain.

Apply them alternatively for the best results.

Step #5 – Apply Turmeric

Remember I told you about turmeric?

It’s that good that it lands another spot in this guide on relieving shoulder pain.

This time I’m going to talk about a turmeric lotion, so you could apply it directly on your pain area.

Here’s a secret recipe for you – so make sure you take notes.

What is great about it is that you could actually prepare it yourself at home.

This combines several anti-inflammatory ingredients that are proven to be the best against shoulder pain.

A tablespoon of the following ingredients is everything you need:

  • Turmeric Powder
  • Ginger Root Powder
  • Coconut Oil
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Honey (Optional)

And this is how you are going to prepare it:

  1. Make sure to melt the Coconut oil until it's liquid.
  2. If you used honey, do the same until it gets liquid.
  3. From here, include the three powders: Ginger Root, Turmeric Powder, and Cayenne Pepper.
  4. Combine them together until you get to a smooth solution.
  5. Allow it at least an hour to cool down.

When ready, you could apply this lotion up to several times a day – whenever the pain is intolerable.

My advice is that you use it 2-3/day (or your body may start to tolerate it too fast).

SUMMARY

Turmeric has one of the best anti-inflammatory benefits for shoulder pain.

Preparing a turmeric lotion is a great way to this herb directly on your painful spot.

And combining it with other anti-inflammatory ingredients is even better.

Step #6 – Omega-3 Rich Foods

Nothing really beats nutrient-dense diets.

In this guide, I included a healthy regimen that could be beneficial for shoulder pain (especially if it's chronic).

It's important to take a holistic approach to relieve pain.

This is where a diet of Omega-3 rich foods can really help.

Here are some of the best Omega-3 rich foods [7]:

  • Anchovies, Mackerel, Salmon, Herring, Sardines and other fatty fishes.
  • Cod Liver Oil
  • Oysters
  • Caviar
  • Flax Seeds and Chia Seeds
  • Walnuts
  • Soybeans

Omega-3 rich foods not only fight inflammation, but also improve general health.

Now, this step only mentions foods rich in Omega-3, so it's not a full diet.

The point is that you can add these items to your diet for healthier results.

That's because most of these food items are common and easy to prepare.

So a diet like this can also enhance the results of anti-inflammatory supplements.

Still, Omega-3 foods won't make miracles overnight.

But trust me, once you include them in your diet, they will really help in the long run.

SUMMARY

Omega-3 rich foods repress pain and stiffness.

So they don't only fight inflammation, they also improve your general health.

Step #7 – Straightening Your Back

This last step deals with improving your body posture.

It may not look like it directly affects your shoulders  – but it does.

Straightening your back will not only give you a proper body alignment.

It will also decrease fatigue and that strain on your body’s ligaments and muscles – including those in your shoulders!

I won’t deny that it could be a little awkward and unnatural at first .

But as they always say, the first step is always the hardest!

Over time, this new routine of straightening your back will seem natural and comfortable.

Here are some common ways to straighten your back:

  1. Practice standing up tall.
  2. When on a computer, place the screen at your eye level.
  3. Sit in an office chair with your shoulders straight, to avoid tension.
  4. Get an office chair that has a good back support.
  5. Practice good sleeping posture.

Now, there are obviously more ways to keep your back in check.

But these are just some that could be useful to you in your everyday life.

Maintaining a healthy position doesn't only help your pain – but it also helps in the long run.

SUMMARY

Straightening your back promotes muscle strength (which includes your shoulders).

Once practiced in daily routines, it will give you some long-term benefits.

My Final Thoughts

So how can you relieve your shoulder pain?

If you follow the steps above, I'm sure your shoulders will thank you.

For this reason – make sure to remember these 7 steps:

  1. Use a DMSO lotion.
  2. Give yourself a massage with essential oils.
  3. Take some anti-inflammatory supplements.
  4. Alternate heat-cold therapies at home.
  5. Prepare and apply some turmeric lotion.
  6. Consume Omega-3 rich foods.
  7. Force yourself to straighten your back.

Remember that these steps will not automatically give you an instant result.

But some of them can – especially the DMSO lotion.

So you don't need to endure this level of pain and discomfort.

Why not try all of these steps – since they are so easy to follow?

You will thank me after, trust me.

  1. Thanks for the tip that coconut oil can help in alleviating shoulder pain. I’m interested in going to a clinic soon because I seem to experience pain on my shoulders when I wake up in the morning. I’d like to know what might be causing that in order to fix the problem right away.

    1. Hi Alice, sorry to hear about the pain you’re experiencing. Seeing a specialist is the best, if you ask me. I don’t know your age but the symptoms you seem to be dealing with may be caused by an osteoarthritis located inside your shoulder. Are you also suffering from morning stiffness in your shoulders? This is another very common symptom of this condition. Unfortunately, osteoarthritis doesn’t have a cure – because it’s caused by cartilage tear and wear. But there are certain ingredients that repair this damage and improve your symptoms. I’m talking about glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin, which are probably the best substances for arthritis (according to studies and clinical trials).

So what I can recommend you are products based on these ingredients (and some additional ones, that can reduce inflammation and consequent pain). Just like you could see in this article, my top choice is a supplement called ProJoint Plus because it contains all these essential nutrients in some really high doses, but it’s also extremely affordable (compared to many other similar products, that cost even double). So I think it’s the best product you could get right now.

      Hope this helps!
