It’s time to review Unisom Sleep Aid – which is another budget-friendly sleep supplement.
However – is it worth buying or not?:
- quite affordable
- easy to use
- several adverse effects
Let's find out if this product is a good option by taking a closer look at its features.
Note: This review is based on my opinion + research on Unisom Sleep Aid.
Review Summary
Full Name: Unisom SleepTabs by Chattern
Product Type: Sleep Supplement
Best Actual Prize: Around $8
Cheapest Place To Buy: Amazon
Designed For: Reducing sleep difficulties and insomnia
My Rating: 5 out of 10
Recommended?: Not quite – I found several disadvantages about it:
- low doses
- only one active ingredient
- some frequent side effects
Instead, I advise you to try the best sleep supplement I know, which is better in a lot of aspects.
What I Liked About It
- Only requires a pill per day
- Trustworthy producer behind
- Very affordable
- Available in a lot of countries
- Lots of real user experiences behind
What I Didn’t Like About It
- Only contains one active ingredient
- Poor product handling and shipping
- Causes adverse reactions quite often
Unisom In A Nutshell
Firstly – Unisom Sleep Aid is an affordable sleep supplement.
It has different versions that you can choose from:
- SleepTabs
- PM Pain
- SleepGels
- Simple Slumbers
- SleepMinis
- Unisom SleepMelts
But for this review, we will focus on Unisom SleepTabs, since it's the most popular.
The main and only active ingredient it has is an antihistamine.
Now, this kind of ingredients tend to work by sedation.
So this supplement is not a real sleep booster – but rather a sedative.
If this doesn't bother you, it's fine – because in terms of improving sleep, this product surely works.
However – there are some red flags about it:
- only one active ingredient
- triggers side effects often
- poor product shipping/handling
I was actually surprised that it causes adverse reactions, since it has a basic formulation.
But again – its only ingredient is very powerful in terms of sedation.
Considering this, Unisom isn't the safest sleep product out there.
So that's something to keep in mind before buying it.
Other than that – it's a very good deal in terms of price.
But it won't give you a natural/refreshing sleep.
That's the only reason why I recommend you to look for better alternatives.
#1 – Claims & Producer
Let me give you some details about Unisom:
- how it works
- the company behind
- the health problems it helps
1. Claims
The main claim of Unisom Sleep Aid is it allows you to “fall asleep 33% faster.”
Now – if you're curious, here are some other things about it:
- makes you feel recharged in the morning
- helps you fall asleep at night
- is a non-habit forming product
Like I already said – there are several different versions of Unisom:
- SleepTabs
- PM Pain
- SleepGels
- Simple Slumbers
- SleepMinis
- SleepMelts
Now – I want to say that Unisom is a typical OTC sleep supplement.
Other than that, don't expect a lot of claims and over-the-top promises about it.
Also – it's one of the sleep supplements that are based on antihistamine.
As I already mentioned, this kind of products are actually sedatives.
So they don't promote a natural sleep – but a rather forced one.
But if you're into that type of sleep products, you will probably like Unisom.
2. Producer
Unisom Sleep Aid is made by a company called Chattern Inc.
It's under another company called Sanofi – which is considered to be a trusted brand.
Now – I looked for the contact info of the company on their website:
- I was redirected to Sanofi (perfectly normal)
- here are different contact info (depending on the country)
You can reach out through phone number or ticket submission on the website.
Overall, I can say that this company is trusted (for many years).
So it's definitely not a scam – as long as you buy from the official sellers/websites.
#2 – Ingredients (5 out of 10)
If you ask me, Unisom Sleep Aid's ingredients are very basic.
It has one active compound – which is an antihistamine:
- induces sleep very fast
- extremely powerful effect
- is a sedative
Once again – I'm not a fan of sedative sleep supplements, simply because of their effect.
They don't promote a natural sleep quality, as I already said.
Instead, the sleep they induce isn't very restful.
The other compounds are just inactive ingredients, that have no role when it comes to sleep.
Now – I wish it had some herbal extracts, that would level up its formula.
That's why I'm not a big fan of Unisom's composition.
But let's quickly describe the benefits of each compound.
1. Active Ingredients
Again, I mentioned that Unisom Sleep Aid contains only one active ingredient – an antihistamine.
The compound is called Doxylamine succinate (25 mg):
- induces sleep
- very good reliever of allergies [1]
- reduces mild insomnia and nausea
Some research said that it shouldn't be taken longer than 2 weeks.
But this mostly applies to products with some really high doses, which is not the case.
Overall – it's a decent compound, but it's not the best sleep booster.
It surely works, but the sleep it promotes isn't the best, like I already said.
2. Inactive Ingredients
Now – there are some additional compounds in this supplement.
But since they're not active, they don't have any real sleep benefit:
- Magnesium stearate – binder of the ingredients [2]
- Sodium starch glycolate – helps pills to absorb water fastly [3]
- Calcium phosphate – contributes to bone development [4]
Obviously, I don't find these compounds as big contributors to sleep.
They are mostly involved in making up the pill and putting it together.
Conclusion
To sum it up, Unisom Sleep Aid's active ingredient is an antihistamine.
It's not the typical sleep supplement based on natural sleep boosters.
So if you ask me, it could get better if it had more essential compounds.
Overall – it's not a formula I would recommend, since there are way better options.
#3 – Pills & Dosage (8 out of 10)
Now – let's mention some physical details about Unisom.
1. Pills
If you ask me, here's how I would describe the product:
- flat-sized pills
- caplet formulation
- blue pills
If you're not a fan of big pills, you might actually like this product.
It looks very easy to swallow – especially at night.
2. Dosage
Unisom Sleep Aid has some really clear directions.
It only recommends one tablet daily or as directed by your doctor.
Also – it recommends taking it 30 minutes before bedtime.
Other than that, it shouldn't be taken by children under 12 years old.
Overall – I would say that these instructions are simple and easy to follow.
That's probably one of the best features of this product.
#4 – Results (6.5 out of 10)
There are a lot of honest reviews about Unisom Sleep Aid.
So they can give you a variety of perspectives about it.
I always feature these opinions in this review, to avoid giving you a biased opinion.
Note: I only analyzed authentic reviews, not promotional or fake ones.
1. Positive Opinions
I don't always rely on the official website of any product, since the reviews there can be biased.
So as usual – I will feature authentic reviews from Amazon.
The overall rating of Unisom is 4.6 stars out of 5.
If you're curious, here's what the customers liked about it:
- Most of them mentioned that it helped them fall asleep faster.
- Some pregnant women said that it helped them with nausea.
- Others experienced a peaceful and uninterrupted sleep.
- The rest liked its effect when waking up in the morning.
Honestly – I was so surprised it helped a lot of pregnant women.
I personally would not recommend supplements in pregnancy, unless prescribed by a doctor.
But judging after these reviews, I would say that it's a good sleep product in most cases.
2. Negative Opinions
Let's take a closer look at the complaints of other customers:
- A lot of users experienced various side effects.
- Others didn't feel any changes in their sleep.
- Some mentioned that it made them groggy most of the time.
- There were some who said that they received expired products.
Now, this product doesn't always work in chronic insomnia.
That's because of its basic ingredient list (only an antihistamine).
So the fact that it has a lot of complaints about its effect isn't a surprise.
Conclusion
Overall – Unisom Sleep worked in many cases, based on the reviews.
However, there were also customers who didn't like its effect at all.
So apparently – it only helps people with mild sleep problems.
That's why I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
#5 – Side Effects (4 out of 10)
As I already mentioned, Unisom does have some complaints about its side effects.
Some buyers had a bad experience with it.
So if you're curious, here are some of these side reactions:
- low mood/depresses
- grogginess/tiredness
- drowsiness
- nightmares and uneasiness
- nausea/headache
- shortness of breath
- slight memory loss
- blurred vision
- panic attacks/palpitations
Honestly – I didn't expect to see some of these adverse reactions on Unisom.
A good sleep supplement should help you fall asleep and relax.
Unfortunately – some customers experienced quite the opposite with Unisom.
Overall – it's still up to you if you want to take a risk with it or not.
But there are better alternatives that are safer to use.
#6 – Price (8 out of 10)
If you ask me, Unisom is more on the affordable side.
So if you're on a budget, you might actually consider it.
1. The Exact Price
Now – Unisom Sleep Aid is available on its official website.
But there are some much better deals on Amazon:
- 32 Count costs $7.82
- 80 Count costs $17.99
- Free delivery on selected dates
Actually, it is also available in 16 counts and 48 counts.
But those versions are not that popular – so it's quite hard to find them most of the time.
But all in all, this product has a really good price.
It's true that its formula is pretty basic – but it's still really affordable.
2. Competitors’ Price
I have a better option for you, it's my #1 recommended sleep supplement.
The product is called Sleep Support Plus:
- Sleep Support Plus has some unique and clinically tested ingredients.
- The overall formula is specially made to aid sleep.
- Unisom Sleep Aid contains one active ingredient (an antihistamine).
- Its formula is effective for mild cases of sleep problems.
- Sleep Support Plus requires 2 pills/day to get the optimum effect.
- Meanwhile, Unisom Sleep Aid requires only 1 caplet per day.
- Sleep Support Plus can be bought for only $19 (from its original price of $28).
- Unisom Sleep Aid's price starts at $7.82.
Obviously – Sleep Support Plus is more expensive than Unisom.
But for its quality, it's extremely affordable (especially compared to other sleep supplements).
That's why it is by far the best option, since it's specially designed to help sleep problems.
Besides – unlike Unisom, it works by promoting a healthy sleep, not by sedating you.
So I suggest you to get it instead, since it's more worth investing in.
Conclusion
Overall – Unisom Sleep Aid is an affordable sleep supplement.
But don't expect a lot of features for the price you're going to pay.
So I recommend you to invest in a better option, since you have this possibility.
#7 – Final Conclusions
Let me give you my summarized points about Unisom Sleep Aid.
1. Basic Formula
So this is how I describe Unisom ‘s formula:
- only one active ingredient
- antihistamine is the sleep inducer
Honestly – it's far from the top sleep supplements, in terms of ingredients.
And even though it does work – it doesn't induce a natural sleep.
2. Regular Side Effects
What I didn't like about Unisom are its side effects.
That's because it causes a variety of side reactions.
Honestly – it's not something I recommend on normal days.
I just think that a sleep supplement should help instead of harming you.
3. Very Affordable
Lastly – Unisom Sleep Aid is honestly very cheap.
So it's perfect for those who are on a budget.
For the price of $8, you can get a 32 days supply.
So in terms of money – it's great. But its real problems are some completely others.
My Verdict – Worth It Or Not?
Short answer: Not really – I find some of its features pretty bad:
- One active compound
- Poor product handling and shipping
- Regular side effects
Again – Unisom's formula is based on an antihistamine.
So the sleep it induces doesn't have the best quality.
However, it can be useful only for mild cases, as seen in its user reviews.
But even so – I personally would not go for it.
If you need an excellent product, I advise you to check my #1 recommendation.
The supplement I'm talking about is Sleep Support Plus:
- Made especially for insomnia and sleep
- A lot satisfied users behind
- Has fewer chances of adverse effects
- Unique mechanism of action
- Contains an original mix of ingredients
For its price, you will get some great results and no common side effects.
The formula offers a lot more help for sleep problems.
So I still consider Sleep Support Plus as the best option for a sleep supplement.
