Do your under eyes seem puffy?
Or did you notice some larger eye bags than you had before?
Honestly, these are some common things for most people.
But this doesn't make them less frustrating.
So here's a list of 7 best remedies for under-eye bags that can make a big difference for you.
Note: These remedies are based on my thorough research on under-eye bags.
#1 – Essential/ Baby Oil Massage
It's clear that having under-eye bags can be really bothering.
Besides looking pretty bad, they also make us look older.
So this remedy involves having a massage based on essential oils (EOs).
Here's how these substances can help you:
- Moist maintenance.
- Skin-lightening abilities.
- Decreased discoloration.
- Swelling reduction.
- Eye puffiness is lessened.
- Improved blood circulation.
- Enhancement of skin renewal.
These benefits are totally possible.
That's because essential oils have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and astringent properties.
For this reason – they have the ability to clean and lighten your under-eye bags.
They also work against puffiness – that's why they're mostly included in anti-puff eye creams [1].
These are my top recommended essential oils throughout the years:
- Aloe vera oil
- Argan oil
- Bergamot oil
- Clove oil
- Eucalyptus oil
- Lemon oil
- Peppermint oil
- Tea tree oil
Take note that some essential oils are very concentrated.
Be really careful when applying them near your eyes, as direct eye exposure is very dangerous.
I also suggest diluting them with a carrier oil, as a high concentration can cause irritation.
SUMMARY
Having an essential oil massage is a popular eye bag treatment.
It's very effective because of its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and astringent properties.
Use it with caution and avoid direct application to your eyes.
#2 – Aloe Vera Mask
As its name tells, this remedy is based on a tropical plant called Aloe Vera.
It is a very popular ingredient in skincare practices.
This is because it holds many skin benefits.
That's why it is so common for people to apply it as a facial mask.
Using Aloe Vera may also be effective against your under-eye bags:
- Improves skin moisture around your eyes.
- Triggers the natural production of collagen and elastin [2].
- Gives a soothing effect on the concerned skin area.
- Lessens inflammation.
- Enables proper hydration.
Using Aloe Vera-based ingredients also supports mature aging.
This is important because aging may increase your under-eye bags.
That's why it's also critical for you to use an anti-aging treatment.
And using an Aloe Vera mask is known to delay the signs of premature aging.
You can either buy or make your own.
Now – if you want to make your own make, here's what you need:
- Fresh leaves of Aloe Vera (2-3 pieces)
- Apple cider vinegar (1 tsp)
- Honey (1 tsp)
- Lemon juice (1 tsp)
Make sure to follow these instructions:
- Peel your Aloe Vera leaves.
- Combine it along with the other ingredients in the blender.
- Make sure to use pulse mode to get a thick liquid.
- After doing it, it's ready. Apply cotton in putting around your lower eyelid.
- Let it rest for at least 10 minutes.
- Wash it off with warm water.
While this remedy won't completely eliminate your under-eye bags, it can prevent their worsening.
But if you make your own making, you will have full control over its composition.
SUMMARY
Under-eye bags are one of the early signs of aging.
Use an Aloe Vera mask, as it's an effective way of slowing down aging.
You can try making one at home.

#4 – 2 Minutes Ice
If you're here expecting to find some cost-effective ways, I won't disappoint you.
Home remedies can give a punch to your under-eye bags.
They range from using ingredients that are usually available at home.
In this step, I'm going to show you how using ice from your refrigerator can really help.
Applying ice around your eyes for 2 minutes will really benefit you:
- Lessens dryness.
- Relieves the pain (if any).
- Decreases the swelling.
- Eases the discomfort brought by puffy eyes.
- Improves the appearance of dark circles.
Remember that having under-eye bags can mean having some inflammation.
That's why it's also common to experience eye swelling.
But ice constricts blood vessels around your eyelids and lessens blood flow.
This in turn reduces swelling and even nerve activity that relieves pain.
You can use it by wrapping ice cubes in a clean cloth material and placing it above your under-eye bags.
Do it for at least 2 minutes to see the best results against puffy eyes.
SUMMARY
Under-eye bags may come with eye puffiness and inflammation.
Using ice for at least 2 minutes can be effective in relieving swelling and puffiness.
Plus, it's very affordable.
#5 – Regular Tea Bags
Here's another home remedy that you can surely try anytime.
If you're unfamiliar with it, I understand why it may sound odd at first.
But using tea bags on your eyes is actually quite a popular home alternative.
Leaving them on for a while has its fair share of under-eye bags.
Here's how it can help you with your eye bags problem:
- Reduce dark circle appearance.
- Treats irritation.
- Lessen eye puffiness.
- Decrease redness too.
- Shrink swelling.
- Lower fluids around your eyes.
Using tea bags is definitely recommended, as it's both very effective and cheap.
Tea bags have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
They're made of tannins, that drag out excess fluids to avoid puffiness.
Lastly, tea bags also contain caffeine – which constricts blood vessels that ease puffiness [3].
Take a look at some types of common and herbal teas that you can find in most stores:
- Black tea
- Green tea
- Lavender tea
- Sage tea
- Lemon Balm tea
- Ginger tea
- Hibiscus tea
Now – here's how you should use them for under-eye bags:
- Soak two tea bags in hot water.
- Squeeze the tea bags until the liquid is out.
- Wait for the tea bags to cool down, if you want to use them as a warm compress.
- If you want them to use as a cold compress, put them inside the refrigerator.
- After that, you can gently place them on your closed eyes (for up to 15 minutes).
If you want to lessen the dark circles under your eyes, then choose black or green tea.
And if you want something extra, you can combine it with some cucumber slices, for an additional relief effect.
SUMMARY
Using tea bags for under-eye bags is a popular home alternative.
They have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect when applied to your eyes.
Use black or green if you want to lessen your dark circle's visibility.
#6 – Raw Potatoes
As you can see, we're making the best out of things that are accessible at home.
I'm going to give you another option for treating your under-eye bags.
It requires you to use some of those extra potatoes stacked around your kitchen.
Oh, and yes – potatoes do an excellent job of lightening your dark circles.
Here's how this remedy can help you:
- Dark circles are diminished.
- Puffy eyes control.
- Improved skin complexion.
- Prevention of blemishes.
- Soothing of inflamed skin cells.
- Reduced inflammation.
- Reverse hyperpigmentation.
Remember that potatoes have natural bleaching properties.
They're full of vitamins (B1, B3, B6, C) and minerals (iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus).
One of the reasons why they can lighten skin is due to niacin, which is a form of vitamin B3.
Niacin (niacinamide) is the key to increasing skin lightness and decreasing hyperpigmentation [4].
Now, keep in mind that potatoes are meant for topical application, and here's how to do it:
- Skin a piece of potato.
- Shred a half-sized (a whole one if you prefer) into a pulp.
- Then apply it directly on the dark circles under your eyes.
- Let it rest there for up to 15-20 minutes.
- Wash afterward with lukewarm water.
Do this on a regular basis for better results.
You can also try using potato juice with cotton and then applied overnight.
SUMMARY
There are home alternatives that are effective in treating dark circles and puffy eyes.
Using potatoes works because of their natural bleaching properties.
They are best effective for lightening dark circles under your eyes.
#7 – Cold Spoon Trick
If you really want to save some money, you can use spoons.
It's a really cool trick if you ask me. Plus, it's really easy to do.
On top of it all, it works extremely well.
Here are the potential benefits it brings in:
- Lessens your eye puffiness.
- Reduces redness and swelling.
- Improves dark circle appearance.
- Minimizes pain, if any.
One of the advantages it has is that it's another type of cold compress.
It provides a less harsh alternative to applying cold to your under-eyes area.
Just like any cold therapy, it constricts your blood flow to ease your swollen or inflamed eyes.
But at the same time, it also helps in draining fluids stacked underneath your eyes.
Make sure you remember this procedure:
- Place two metal spoons inside your refrigerator for a few minutes.
- Gently apply either side of the spoons to your closed eyes.
- When applying, don't be afraid to put some pressure.
- Then proceed to slowly glide spoons to the outer corners to drag out fluids underneath your eyes.
- Keep in mind to spend at least 10 minutes per session.
- Then repeat doing so until the spoons are warm.
It does take some work to deal with your under-eye problem.
But this spoon won't really eliminate 100% of dark coloration.
Nevertheless, it can improve the situation, especially when it comes to eye puffiness.
SUMMARY
Using the spoon trick offers an effective way of dealing with under-eye problems.
It acts as a cold compress against eye puffiness and swelling.
Now, it may improve the dark circles – but it won't diminish them right away.
My Final Thoughts
So what are the best remedies for under-eye bags?
I showed you the 7 best ones I know, which you can try at home:
- Apply some essential oils carefully around your eyes.
- Try an Aloe Vera mask.
- Use Eyelasticity for the best results.
- Try applying ice for 2 minutes.
- Place some regular tea bags on your eyes.
- Practice using potatoes.
- Do the spoon trick.
Obviously, these home remedies are only meant as an alternative.
All can be effective, but they cannot give fast results.
The exception is Eyelasticity, which works right after you apply it.
This is why it's probably my #1 recommended remedy from this list.
But all of them can potentially improve your appearance.
And over time, they will make you look and feel better.
