Here's my LA Weight Loss review – a diet program that claims to make weight loss easy:
- quite controversial
- many complaints from previous customers
- very expensive
Glamorous as this program may seem, it happens to have some issues.
It promises to help you shed pounds with little to no effort, but is that really possible?
In other words – are the plans worth it?
This article will tell you all you need to know.
Note: This review is based on my own research + analysis of LA Weight Loss.
Review Summary
Full Name: LA Weight Loss by LA Weight Loss
Product Type: Weight Loss Food
Best Actual Price: $99 (Quick Start Plan)
Cheapest Place To Buy: The official website
Designed For: A quick and easy weight loss
My Rating: 5 out of 10
Recommended?: No, there's no need to bother with it – there are too many risks:
- cumbersome weight-loss process
- involves supplements
- not enough information regarding the formulation
There is too much mystery for this program to be so expensive, so it's better to look elsewhere.
For that matter, I know an alternative that is superior in quality.
What I Liked About It
- Effective for losing weight
- Takes on a different approach to weight loss
- Offers counseling and guidance
- You get in touch with people going through the same struggles
- Available online
What I Didn't Like About It
- Contains too many steps
- May be overwhelming for some people
- You have to eat up to 6 times a day
- No details available about the products
- Forces you to take supplements
- The program migrated to the online medium without notice
- Aggressive advertising from some of the sales staff
- Exorbitantly expensive
LA Weight Loss In A Nutshell
As it would seem, LA Weight Loss used to be quite popular back in the day.
It claims to make your weight-loss journey easier by offering support and guidance.
In other words, it promotes a holistic approach to the issue.
While this program sounds fancy when you first come across it…
A bit of research reveals that it used to be a live experience initially:
- used to have centers all over the US (and not only)
- was based on face-to-face counseling sessions
- centers would also sell the LA Bites, TakeOff Juice, etc.
Suddenly, the centers started to close down one by one, until very few of them remained.
Nowadays, LA Weight Loss is an online dieting program, which cuts down its cost a bit…
Still, as you can see, it remains unreasonably expensive.
But the most confusing part is that you're not even told what makes the program so special.
Looking at the products you are getting, there is very little information about them.
So we have no idea whether their formula even comes close to anything good.
Plus, customer reviews bring up some very relevant issues:
- many clients had no idea about any of these changes
- they wanted a refund but there was no way to reach the company
- some sales staff were quite aggressive in advertising their products
To be fair, switching from live sessions to online activity is a pretty significant change.
As such, the customers definitely deserved to know about it.
So it makes sense that they felt betrayed.
To sum up – not only is LA Weight Loss extremely expensive…
But there is also a lot of mystery surrounding it.
This means you can't know if putting up with their complicated weight-loss process is worth it.
Thus, I strongly suggest looking into a different option.
#1 – What is LA Weight Loss?
Essentially, LA Weight Loss is a diet program that helps people reach their weight loss goal:
- provides support and guidance
- offers personalized weight loss plans
- used to have centers all over the US
Overall, it seems to take a rather holistic approach to weight loss.
What this program does is provide you with healthy meals…
While also offering access to a community that is on the same journey in order to keep you motivated.
Also, keep in mind that exercise is also part of the process.
Now – it is important to keep in mind that over the last two decades, the brand has undergone major changes.
Allow me to clarify:
- controversy regarding the high price of the program
- selling practices of some sales staff
- majority of the centers closed down
As a consequence, LA Weight Loss is now transitioning towards an online service.
Naturally, this means that people can access it regardless of where they live.
In addition, it should also make the program a little more affordable.
Nonetheless, here's what you should expect from LA Weight Loss:
- TakeOff Juice – a drink that supposedly prepares your body for weight loss
- LA Rapid Results Diet System – the diet you follow until you lose 20 pounds
- LA My Way Food Guide – switch to this until you reach your desired weight
- LA Lites Bars – snack bars that keep temptations at bay
- LA SmartTrim Nutritionals – supplements that help your body lose and keep the weight off
In short, this is how this program operates.
Regarding the actual diet plan, it is allegedly customized for everyone.
Due to this, we can't really go into more detail about that.
Still, you may be able to guess that the supplements caused a considerable amount of backlash.
Don't worry – we will get to how this approach works in a bit.
#2 – How It Works & History
Time to look at the general aspects of LA Weight Loss:
- how it works
- whether or not it's for you
- its history
1. How It Works
Unfortunately, there is not that much info regarding how exactly this program works.
What we can gather, however, is the following:
- designed to help you lead a balanced life
- teaches you to lose weight effectively and keep it off
As I said previously, there are few details regarding the diet plans…
Which means we cannot know the full potential of this service in advance.
However, it is known that these diet plans operate based on a transmetabolic factor.
Allegedly, this is supposed to get your body to burn calories throughout the day…
While also boosting your energy in order to avoid feeling tired.
On top of that, it is also supposed to tame the appetite.
In the vision of LA Weight Loss, this is what leads to permanent progress.
Knowing that the brand requires you to buy their products in order to gain full access to their program…
It makes sense that this dieting program is quite controversial.
Especially given the fact that they also sell you supplements…
But they also heavily rely on processed foods.
To be fair, this model does not sound all that healthy.
It can even lead to more weight gain, actually [1].
2. History
The official website has a page called “Company Background”.
Over there, we find out that LA Weight Loss has been active since 1989.
The company claims to:
- have helped millions of people
- take care to keep the program accessible
However, that is only in terms of resources – they want you to be able to lose weight with food from any market.
As I mentioned, the brand is mostly operating online nowadays.
Because so many of their centers closed down, lots of customers lost their money.
That is because it took a while for everything to be moved online.
Right from the start, this company does not seem to be the most transparent one out there.
#3 – Weight Loss Plans (6 out of 10)
In this section, we will take a closer look at what a day of following the LA Weight Loss program looks like.
While there are no weight loss plans to speak of in the traditional sense…
We can look at the specifics of each step in this diet program.
1. LA Weight Loss Plan
Let's first talk about the TakeOff Juice that you have to drink.
The official website claims that it is supposed to kickstart weight loss and enhance your results.
Here's how you are supposed to use it:
- drink it in the first 2 days of your diet
- afterwards, drink it every 14 days
It seems like this is supposed to work as some sort of detox.
However, some people say that the juice is too concentrated.
As such, you might want to dilute it with water whenever you're drinking it.
Also, be aware that you have to drink about 32 ounces of juice each day, as the plan dictates.
Now, let's talk about the LA Rapid Results Diet System.
- After the initial two days, you switch to this plan, which is the 2nd step in the program.
- You stick to it until you lose 20 pounds (or less, if your goal is below this limit).
- You are given a list of meals you are allowed to eat.
- In this way, you know what to look for in your diet.
Moreover, take note of the fact that you're supposed to have 6 meals a day during this time.
Here are the nutrients you should be looking for in this specific period:
- vegetables
- fruits
- starches
- proteins
- dairy
- fats
- LA Lite Bars
Once you're past that, it's time to move on to the LA My Way Food Guide.
Basically, this allows you to get more diversity in your diet.
It is essentially an expanded version of the previous step.
From here on, you are supposed to stick to this step until you reach the weight you are after.
When it comes to the LA Lite Bars, keep in mind that you have to eat two each day.
Here's how they play into this diet program:
- contain protein to help your metabolism
- fiber to keep you full
- ward off temptations
Overall, they just seem like a handy snack to have around if you happen to get a bit hungry.
Lastly, let's talk about the supplements you get from LA Weight Loss.
They are called LA SmartTrim Nutritionals, and they are also said to be quite important.
In short, they are supposed to provide your body with the nutrients and vitamins it needs while losing weight.
These pills are looking to make sure your diet still provides minerals for your body.
As you go through these steps, remember that the company also recommends exercising.
In fact, you should try to work out at least 3 times a week for optimal results.
Be sure to keep that in mind.
Conclusion
As I was walking you through all the steps of this dieting program…
You could probably see where the controversy surrounding the company comes from, right?
It's mostly because this brand insists on buying its products…
Even if you can likely find some alternatives elsewhere.
Not to mention that they don't really say anything about the ingredients.
This means we can't know how good the cleansing juice and the supplements really are.
Besides, they put a lot of emphasis on products that may not even be that impactful in the end…
To be fair, it's hard to believe that juice can be that potent in terms of burning fat.
Even if it serves as a detox drink, it can't possibly be all that crucial for weight loss [2].
The pills are also a mystery, as there is no information regarding their formula.
Looking at all this, I can see why people were offended by the way this company seems to shove products in your face.
Indeed, this does not inspire that much trust.
#4 – Meals & Menu (6 out of 10)
Let's take a peek at what you are offered in terms of actual food.
After all, losing weight is mostly about balancing your calorie intake.
1. The Menu
When it comes to the actual food, LA Weight Loss leaves most of the work up to you:
- snack bars
- meal replacements
- recipes
As you can see, while they have some shakes and a few LA Lites you can purchase…
It looks like they also ask that you cook your meals according to their recipes.
Now – the snack bars are the more convenient aspect of the menu.
That's because these are obviously ready-made.
Of course, don't forget that, in a way, the supplements are also part of the menu.
They are supposed to aid your body in terms of nutrient intake, so keep that in mind.
Allegedly, they are quite impactful on your LA Weight Loss journey.
Other than that, you will notice that the official website speaks of some recipes.
It turns out that this weight-loss program also has an app, which you can use to check more food options.
It looks like they cover a decent array of diet types as well as different food affinities.
However, the fact that they imply you have to cook yourself may be a dealbreaker for some of you.
In short, if you are strapped for time, you may not appreciate this approach.
It is true that it is more convenient to go for a program that takes care of the food for you, after all.
Not to mention that they don't even deliver the necessary ingredients.
You have to go to the grocery store and purchase everything yourself.
However, this also comes with an advantage.
According to LA Weight Loss, you will never be forced to eat anything you don't like.
So just pick and choose what you want to prepare for yourself.
2. The Meals
It's time to check out the recipes you are offered in this program.
Sadly, you cannot browse all of the options without being a subscriber…
So let's just look at what we can see on the preview page.
Here are some breakfast ideas:
- Cheesy Scrambled Eggs
- Apple Pancake
- Breakfast Burrito
If you are into hamburgers, sandwiches, & pizza, here's what you can get:
- BBQ Chicken Pizza
- Firecracker Burger
- Chicken Hummus Wrap
When you're in the mood for some dessert, rest assured that you have options:
- Apple Crisp
- Low-Fat Brownies
- Summer Sangria
Last but not least, if you are looking for noodles, pasta, & rice bowls, here they are:
- Baked Mac & Cheese
- Mediterranean Pasta Toss
- Spiced Shrimp & Rice
To be fair, all these meals sound quite nice.
As you can see, you are able to check some nutritional facts about every recipe…
However, it's not very extensive information.
It is a shame that you can't see more options, though.
Although the selection list is nice, keep in mind that everything is cooked by your own self.
Therefore, if you're not comfortable with being in the kitchen…
Or maybe you're generally short on time, it's not a good idea to sign up for LA Weight Loss.
After all, it is true that there are more convenient services out there.
It just depends on what your priorities are.
#5 – Results (5 out of 10)
As you may recall, LA Weight Loss has been around for quite some time.
That being said, it's gone through enough changes for people to gather their thoughts.
Thus, it's time to see how promising this weight-loss program really is…
According to its customers.
Note: I only considered authentic reviews, not promotional/fake ones.
1. Positive Reviews
First off, let's analyze the positive aspects of LA Weight Loss.
You might notice that their official website has a section dedicated to success stories.
Now – I'm going to steer clear of that section because it runs the risk of being biased.
As such, I'm going to look at 3rd party websites.
Here's what people liked about this program:
- People saying it actually helped them lose weight.
- They also managed to keep the weight off.
- Some said it was worth the money.
- The staff is well-behaved.
- The program does a good job of keeping its customers motivated.
We also get some input from a customer who was affected by the drastic changes I mentioned:
Interestingly enough, I could barely find any reviews that were positive through and through.
The majority were praising the service while also pointing out some of its flaws.
It goes to show that while LA Weight Loss may be effective to some degree…
It comes with a fair share of disadvantages.
2. Negative Reviews
As I told you, LA Weight Loss is quite a controversial program…
I struggled to find many positive reviews on it.
When it comes to the backlash, however, there are quite a few opinions to choose from.
Without further ado, here is what people didn't like about this specific service:
- Most people say it is way too expensive.
- They also claim that snack bars, supplements, & juices are advertised too aggressively.
- According to quite a few clients, customer care is nonexistent.
- When the physical centers started closing down, it's likely that no one was refunded.
- Customers also claim they can find more affordable alternatives at local stores.
Here's a review from someone who was a member of the program when everything started to change:
As you can see, moving to the online space created many trust issues among customers.
This is understandable because going no contact is a quick way to lose any trust you may have.
Not to mention that the program is very expensive in the first place.
Naturally, people are very disappointed to see their investments turn to dust.
Conclusion
In all honesty, the negative reviews far surpass the positive ones.
This proves the fact that the reputation that LA Weight Loss has gained is indeed controversial.
While a few people claim that the service is actually fairly efficient in terms of losing weight…
It is not worth the hassle if you are powerless in front of any issue you might face.
Because of this, it makes sense that this company is not seen as trustworthy.
On that note, maybe it is better to go for something that grants you more security.
#6 – Side Effects (7 out of 10)
When it comes to side reactions, you may have noticed that the user feedback did not have much to say.
Keeping this in mind, it is impossible to know whether LA Weight Loss is completely safe or not.
Despite this, make sure to keep these symptoms in mind when switching your diet:
- very low energy
- bloating
- exhaustion
Whenever you drastically alter your diet, your body may feel the above manifestations.
There's no need to worry too much – just make sure to closely monitor your situation.
Be aware that if everything escalates, you might even deal with diarrhea and/or abdominal cramping.
Plus, since we are on the topic of weight-loss food, make sure that what you eat is in good condition.
That's because consuming spoiled food can lead to food poisoning.
If you notice that your food looks off…
It is probably best that you do not eat it.
#7 – Price (3 out of 10)
Keep in mind that services that cater to dieting and weight loss make up a complex niche.
That being said, such programs tend to be quite up there in terms of pricing.
But let us see how relevant this is when it comes to LA Weight Loss.
1. The Exact Price
This aspect was briefly mentioned before, so it should come as no surprise.
LA Weight Loss is very expensive, all things considered.
Here are the specifics:
- $99 for the Quick Start Plan
- $149 for the Gold Plan
- $196.95 for Platinum Plan
In essence, the main difference between these options is how many LA Bites & TakeOff Cleanses you get.
Plus, since it's a subscription we are talking about…
Be prepared to get charged periodically.
Of course, it can get even pricier if you buy more extras yourself.
As such, be careful when deciding whether or not you are ready to commit to this program.
2. Competitor's Price
In case this service doesn't have you convinced…
I would like to introduce you to Nutrisystem – my top recommendation for a weight-loss meal plan:
- My recommendation is much more efficient when it comes to weight loss.
- That's because it helps you through diet only.
- It also doesn't rely on supplements, which is a relief.
- Nutrisystem also delivers ready-made food, meaning you don't have to cook.
- LA Weight Loss does not have much to offer in terms of customization, compared to my alternative.
- What's more – Nutrisystem is also a lot more affordable, starting at $9.99 per day.
Due to all these advantages, I hope you can see that Nutrisystem is the better deal.
Not only does it save you both money and time…
But it also doesn't overcomplicate the weight-loss process by making you go through so many steps.
After all, it's more convenient to choose a more forgiving option, right?
Conclusion
In the grand scheme of things, it's obvious that LA Weight Loss is quite expensive.
That makes sense in a way since it markets itself as a glamorous program.
However, the price should also indicate high quality.
But we do not have that certainty in this case.
As it stands, this company does not inspire much trust.
Not to mention that you can't even check the ingredient list of the products in this program.
Because of this, we cannot be sure that they are worth it.
As such, I would advise you to look for something that is more transparent in this sense.
#8 – Final Conclusions
Now that we are nearing the end of this article, let's summarize what we know so far.
1. Little Information Regarding The Products
It's impossible to ignore how many products are part of this weight-loss process.
There is a lot of stuff to keep in mind once you commit to LA Weight Loss.
It is also natural to become a little curious about what makes these steps so special.
For instance – how does the TakeOff Juice kickstart weight loss?
What is in the supplements that this company sells to you?
There simply is no information regarding this topic, which is not ideal.
This means that their methods cannot be researched properly.
2. Very Drastic Changes
As we have already seen, LA Weight Loss used to have lots of physical centers all over the US.
Over time, most of them closed down, leading to the company moving to the online medium…
Which seems to have angered quite a few customers at the time.
It seems like they never disclosed these changes, which made the customers feel betrayed.
And for good reason, since their money apparently went nowhere.
Plus, you can't help but wonder what was the reason behind such a huge decision.
Could it have been because of the negative attention the company was getting because of its approach?
3. Unreasonably Expensive
Lastly, you just can't ignore the exorbitant price tag.
Since we cannot infer whether or not the price is justified by the program's quality…
It just seems like an unreasonable choice for the price to be so high.
Not to mention that I also saw reviews from people saying they looked for alternatives at the local grocery store…
And they claimed to have found snack bars that were the same, if not better, for a fraction of the price.
As to the rest of the products, we cannot even be sure that they are that great…
Because of the lack of information.
So why risk buying into something that is so secretive, not to mention very expensive?
My Verdict – Worth It Or Not?
Short answer: No – look for something better.
I don't find LA Weight Loss to be worth the money:
- Promotes a holistic approach to weight loss.
- The weight-loss process is unnecessarily complex.
- You have to juggle many steps at once.
- At one point, you have to eat as many as 6 times per day.
- The ingredients of the products remain unknown.
- You also have to take supplements.
- The company underwent dramatic changes over the course of time.
- Many complaints from loyal customers saying they could not get in contact with the company.
- Allegedly, some sales staff can be pretty aggressive with advertising.
- Way too expensive.
By now, you probably guessed that LA Weight Loss failed to impress me.
While it may seem a little fancy when you first look at it…
A bit of research unveils lots of mysteries regarding this company.
As such, I would not recommend trusting it with your money.
Still, if you are interested in a weight-loss program that is actually worth it…
You may remember that I previously recommended Nutrisystem, right?
Well, that's because it is my top recommendation for a weight-loss meal plan:
- very efficient for losing weight
- offers a very customizable experience
- more affordable despite its superior quality
Just based on these aspects, I am convinced that you would prefer Nutrisystem in every way.
There's just no competition when it comes to the best.
So, I am sure you will not be disappointed if you give it a try!
