What I Liked About It

  • Has a credible background
  • Pretty good formulation

What I Didn’t Like About It

  • Not easy to take (6 capsules/day)
  • Causes adverse reactions quite often
  • Works pretty slow

BoneUp In A Nutshell

Obviously – Jarrow Formulas BoneUp is a bone supplement.

Let's start by briefly mentioning its different versions:

  • BoneUp Bone-Health System
  • 3 Per Day BoneUp Bone-Health System
  • Vegetarian BoneUp Bone-Health System
  • Ultra BoneUp Bone-Health System

The main difference between these products is their formula.

But for this review, we will focus on BoneUp Bone-Health System.

Now – it's not a bad product, since it works as it promises to.

However, don't expect too much from it because it also has enough cons:

  • lower doses
  • requires 6 capsules/day
  • works quite slow
  • causes some serious side effects

So even though it's a basic supplement, you will still get some adverse reactions.

But again, that's not the case of everyone, you just need to be cautious.

Lastly – for the starting price of $18.50 (120 capsules), it's a pretty good deal.

Overall, it's a good product if you don't need much for your bones.

However – there are better alternatives that offer more benefits.

#1 – Claims & Producer

Here are the first things we need to talk about BoneUp:

  • how it works
  • who is the producer behind
  • what health issues it treats
1. Claims

I want to say right away that BoneUp has a very short description.

It's just mentioned that it has a “comprehensive micronutrient formula.”

Its main benefits are the following:

  • promotes bone health
  • increases bone density
  • supplies calcium and collagen
  • provides bone proteins

Now – there are different versions of BoneUp, depending on your needs:

  • BoneUp Bone-Health System
  • 3 Per Day BoneUp Bone-Health System
  • Vegetarian BoneUp Bone-Health System
  • Ultra BoneUp Bone-Health System

The main difference between these versions is the formulas and doses.

Also, all versions have StimuCal™ MicroCrystalline HydroxyApatite.

So based on my research, it's just a term for a natural source of calcium.

But as I said, we will focus on BoneUp Bone-Health System.

I just chose the regular one, since it's more popular on the market.

This particular version doesn't have the following:

  • wheat and gluten
  • soybeans and dairy
  • egg and fish/shellfish
  • peanuts or tree nuts

Lastly – it says that it's often imitated as a bone supplement.

But I don't think that's true, simply because of one reason.

All bone supplements should contain essential ingredients.

So Jarrow Formulas BoneUp isn't actually unique.

But if you're planning to buy it, I suggest you to compare the versions first.

2. Company Behind

The maker of BoneUp is a company called Jarrow Formulas.

So far – here's some vital information I found:

  • all of its products are dedicated to overall body health
  • almost everything is formulated as a supplement
  • contact info includes email, fax, phone number and mailing address

Now – the company has been on the market for a very long time.

It's a staple and it's proven by a lot of customers internationally.

So if you ask me, I would say that it's a legit brand and that you can safely buy from it.

#2 – Ingredients (6.5 out of 10)

Now – let's talk about BoneUp's formula.

The ingredients are mostly vitamins and minerals.

If you ask me, its formula could be better if it had some herbal compounds as well.

Also – the doses are slightly lower than my personal preference.

For this review, I will not separate the ingredients into categories – since there aren't too many.

So here are the compounds present and their benefits:

  1. Calcium – helps the bones stay strong
  2. Vitamin C – promotes the formation of collagen [1]
  3. Magnesium – increases bone density
  4. Vitamin D3 – supports calcium absorption [2]
  5. Manganese – maintains bone development
  6. Vitamin K2 – helps with the treatment of osteoporosis [3]
  7.  Zinc – promotes bone regeneration [4]
  8. Copper – assists in bone maintenance
  9. Potassium – reduces calcium loss [5]
  10. Boron – keeps the bones and joints strong [6]

In my view, I consider these ingredients the basics of a bone supplement.

So if I have to judge the overall formula, I would say that it's okay.

It's not bad – but it's not outstanding either, since it can do better.

Conclusion

Overall – Jarrow Formulas BoneUp has a decent formula.

You will surely get some benefits from it – but it might take time.

So if you're looking for a potent product, find other alternatives.

#3 – Pills & Dosage (4 out of 10)

Here are some of the basic things you need to know about BoneUp.

1. Pills

Now – let me describe the product to you:

  • slightly transparent capsule
  • white to light powder inside
  • average capsule size

If you ask me, I couldn't comment much – since it looks very typical.

2. Dosage

Honestly – here's the part where Jarrow Formulas BoneUp gets a little tricky.

The instructions suggest taking 2 capsules 3 times a day.

So you basically need a total of 6 capsules daily (preferably with meals).

It also mentioned that you need to follow the instructions (for a maximum absorption).

But normally – a strong and potent supplement shouldn't require more than 3 pills/day.

That's because no one wants to keep taking pills multiple times daily.

Also – it's a clear sign that BoneUp tends to work quite slow.

So I suggest you to look for other options that are not so hard to take/use.

#4 – Results (7 out of 10)

I checked out the comments of  BoneUp's previous customers.

The main purpose was to see how it worked for different people.

Also – I wanted to avoid giving you one-sided opinions about this product.

Note: I only analyzed authentic reviews, not promotional or fake ones.

1. Positive Opinions

So far – the place where I found the most authentic reviews for BoneUp is Amazon.

If you're curious, here are the reviews of happy customers:

  1. Many users saw an increase in their bone density.
  2. Some mentioned that it's a good supplement after a bone operation.
  3. Others said that it's a quality product to provide calcium.
  4. Some others experienced improvements in their osteoporosis.

The product seemed to be good, since it garnered a 4.6/5 stars rating.

Overall – Jarrow Formulas BoneUp looks legit, since past buyers got to try it.

2. Negative Opinions

Meanwhile – let's feature some of the complaints of other customers:

  1. Many customers said that it took a long time or didn't work.
  2. A lot of buyers experienced adverse reactions after using it.
  3. Others complained about no improvement in their bone density.
  4. Some just didn't find it worth buying.

The most common comment among the negative reviews were the side effects.

So you can tell by now that it was the problem of the majority.

Other than that, you can also confirm now that it works pretty slow.

Conclusion

To summarize, BoneUp works great for other people.

But you can't deny the fact that it also performed poorly for others.

So at this point, it's up to you if you want to try it or not.

I just want to advise you to check its other aspects and review before judging it.

#5 – Side Effects (3 out of 10)

As I mentioned, there are a lot of comments about the side effects.

So here are what others experienced with BoneUp:

  • tiredness and insomnia
  • muscle aches and leg cramps
  • stomach pain and gastric problems
  • headaches and vomiting
  • toes, fingers and knee swelling
  • heartburn and breathing difficulties
  • allergic reactions

Now – I just want to say that these adverse reactions are quite a lot.

But I'm not saying that they will all appear in your case, I just want to warn you.

As far as I am concern, bone products shouldn't cause any side effects.

At least not any significant ones.

Overall, I suggest you to look for other options with fewer side effects.

#6 – Price (7 out of 10)

One thing I noticed about Jarrow Formulas BoneUp is its price.

It's quite affordable, if you're not looking for an exceptional quality.

1. The Exact Price

Now – the product is available on Amazon, but the stocks are not complete.

So I chose to feature the prices from Jarrow Formulas' website:

  • 120 capsules cost $18.50
  • 240 capsules cost $29.95
  • 360 capsules cost $40.05
  • Free shipping in the US only

Again, it requires 6 pills daily – so you need 180 capsules to last you a month.

The closest package you can get for a month of supply is the 240 capsules.

Also – the product's different sizes are currently sold out from the website.

So if you ask me, there are 2 reasons for that:

  • sold out because it's very good
  • currently unavailable for product development

But either way, we can safely say that it's fairly priced.

Don't expect too much, since it's a decent supplement – not an exceptional one.

Overall, if you're looking for a good budget-friendly bone product, you can try it.

2. Competitors’ Price

So if you're looking for an excellent product, check my #1 recommended bone supplement.

The product I'm talking about is called OsteoMD:

  1. OsteoMD contains unique, potent and strong ingredients.
  2. The overall formula is effective and has a superior form of calcium.
  3. BoneUp has some essential ingredients for the bones.
  4. But the overall doses in the formula are slightly lower.
  5. OsteoMD requires only 3 capsules per day.
  6. On the other hand, BoneUp suggests 6 capsules daily.
  7. Normally, OsteoMD costs $49.99 but can be bought for only $37.
  8. Meanwhile, BoneUp's price starts at $18.50.

In my view, OsteoMD is better than BoneUp.

For its price, you will get some amazing results, since it has a better formula.

It's true that it's a bit pricey – but its quality is also higher.

So overall – I see it as a much better investment for your money.

Conclusion

Overall – BoneUp is a decent bone supplement for its price.

So if you don't need too much and you're on a budget, it's a good option.

But in my view, there are way better alternatives in the same price range.

#7 – Final Conclusions

Here’s how I would like to describe my points on BoneUp.

1. Decent Formula

If you ask me, Jarrow Formulas's product has some decent ingredients.

It's not exceptional – but it has some essential compounds for the bones.

Also – its doses are slightly low, so it's great as a maintenance product only.

But if you're looking for a supplement that helps more, it's not my top pick.

2. Side Effects

Ideally – BoneUp shouldn't cause any adverse reactions.

Again, it doesn't have some very strong doses and its formula is decent.

But for some reason, a lot of customers experienced side effects.

I'm not saying that it's a bad product – but you should be cautious.

3. Right Pricing

Lastly, if you don't mind the following situations:

  • 6 capsules per day
  • quite slow effect
  • 2-month supply is around $41

In this case – you can definitely get BoneUp in such a good deal.

My Verdict – Worth It Or Not?

Short answer: Yes and no – it's a decent product if you're on a tight budget.

But you should consider some red flags:

  1. Some serious side effects
  2. Works slow
  3. Low doses
  4. Very hard to take (6 capsules/day)

Again – Jarrow Formulas BoneUp is not an awful product at all.

In fact, it is great  if you're don't look too much from a bone supplement.

But since you're willing to put some effort in the right product, look for a better option.

If you let me, I want to recommend my #1 bone supplement.

The product I'm talking about is called OsteoMD:

  • A lot of specialists recommend it
  • Contains a superior form of calcium
  • Works very safely and very well
  • Has scientific data behind
  • Ingredients are unique and helpful

Honestly – OsteoMD is the best option when it comes to bone supplements.

Besides being easy to take, its quality will surely give you your money's worth.

  1. I have been taking Bone Up for a couple of months, been having problems when taking it! I stop taking it two days ago and my problems have been getting much better! I will not ever take another Bone up again! Would love to find something that will not harm my stomach!

    1. Hello Ruth. Yes, unfortunately, side effects are quite common in BoneUp (they’re common in many bone supplements – but this one has a higher rate than usual). The reason why I recommend OsteoMD as an alternative is because it’s extremely safe and well-tolerated (due to its improved formula and ingredients). So if you want a bone product that doesn’t cause side effects on a regular basis, OsteoMD is what I recommend you to go for.
